We haven't had paper towels at home for 20 years. I used simple cotton tea towels and hand-knitted rags as substitutes. They worked fine. I love knitted washcloths but needed something more absorbent for big spills. I ordered them and the big test came that evening when my son spilled an entire 8 ounce glass of water on the puzzle table. Before the water could reach the puzzle pieces, the towels soaked everything up. We were all pleasantly surprised. We threw them in the washing machine along with other rags and towels and they even went in the dryer. Simple as can be. The absorbency is not affected in the washing machine or in the dryer. The colors are a bit different, but that's ok. I love the cute little edges on these towels. I'll definitely get some more dinnerware sets and some plain blue sets for spills etc. I don't use anything else for window cleaning or mirrors. So true.
