We have been using this as both an alarm clock and as a visual timer and it works great for both.It is really easy to use as a timer because it has 4 preset buttons at 5, 10, and 15 minutes plus a 25/5 pomodoro timer. I prefer waking up to the one that sounds like birds chirping.The wire can be removed and it can be powered with batteries but because the clock face is so bright and colorful the batteries die after just a few days. I keep batteries in so it won't die when I move it from room to room but I plug it in most of the time.
