Yes, it is more expensive than a standard tube, but the design, functionality and materials make up for the extra price. The main tube is made out of a nice flexible hard rubber or vinyl material and the mouthpiece is made out of a nice soft silicone. This tube fits snugly in the mouth without pinching the corners of the mouth or gums. I stepped on this pipe and it doesn't crack - not cheap plastic. I would describe this pipe as a semi dry pipe, the top is in the shape of a shark fin. It's very easy to breathe even during strenuous activity and blowing works fantastic. This snorkel lasts a very long time.
