Review on πŸ’‘ ALITOVE DC 12V 5A Power Supply Adapter Converter Transformer AC 100-240V Input with 5.5x2.1mm DC Output Jack for 5050 3528 LED Strip Module Light by Brandon Gaines

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent up to 4 amps but not 5 amps

Bought this adapter to power three 12V network devices (modem, router, switch) from an AC UPS and appreciated that one 12V adapter with one more splitter would be more energy efficient than three separate 12V wall adapters and takes up much less space for an AC outlet than three wall adapters. Before use, I measured the output voltage at various current loads with a digital electronic load tester while powering the adapter with 123 VAC. The output voltage was measured at the output of the DC connector. The output voltage starts at 12.3V with no load and slowly decreases (almost linearly) to 11.785V at 3.5A output current. I also measured the power consumption at the wall, 1.4W phantom consumption with no load, 75% efficiency at 0 .5 A , 83% peak efficiency at 2.0 A output current and 81% efficiency at 3.5 A output current. The voltage drops sharply, 11.1V at 4.0A, 9.6V at 4.5A and only 8.4V at 5.0A. I continued the load test beyond the rated output current of 5A and the voltage dropped to 6.2V with an output of 6.0A. See attached table and graph for measurements. So if you are looking for a good 12V power supply with up to 4A output, this is the best choice. The output voltage above 4A drops sharply. I wouldn't call it a 12V 5A power supply because you can only get 8.4V from a 5A load. I'd best call it a 4A power supply that's 11.1 V at 4A with a peak power output of 44 watts. Other than that, it worked great for my purposes, powering three always-on 12V 1A devices from a splitter.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • No power
