Review on πŸ“Ά T-Mobile ASUS Wireless-AC1900 Dual-Band Gigabit Router - Enhanced Network Security with AiProtection by Trend Micro (Renewed) by Jason King

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Reliable router that can be easily modified.

Bought one of these to replace another router that died after reading some reviews. Condition - The router arrived in a nice box. The power supply looked brand new with protective plastic on it. The router itself was in like new condition with no external defects. The antennas came in a package and looked like new. It came with an instruction manual and a note from Revain about "certified refurbished". In general, it looks like a completely new router from the outside. Operation - The router came with the first setting "out of the box". It had the T-Mobile firmware on it and it appeared to be a slightly newer version as it lacked the SSH terminal capability. modding The router is easily modified using manuals found on the internet to turn it back into an AC68U. Contrary to the leading positive feedback, a fix has been found to update to the latest version. Note that if you do not run this fix FIRST before updating your modded router to the latest AC68U firmware, it will be corrupted to the point where it will be difficult to recover. In the troubleshooter, you removed some of the files that identify the router as a T-Mobile version so newer firmware versions don't trigger the crippling code. If you activate a crippling code, as of the date of this review, there are recovery steps. Any modding is at your own risk. In terms of performance, I have no complaints. Even with T-Mobile firmware under $50 for this router, it's a hell of a deal if you're looking for something reliable and cheap.
