after using it a few times, my roommates and I have decided it's easier to peel the skin with a knife or hit it with a flat blade. You apparently have to use STRONG pressure and roll the garlic back and forth A LOT, and sometimes even if you do it 10 times for ONE PIECE OF GARLIC, you'll push the chunk out and it still has the skin on it! I think I'll throw that thing out the window!
