Review on LG 32UN880-B UltraFine 31.5" 4K Monitor - Tilt, Pivot, Height Adjustment, Connectivity by Will Pro

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This is the best monitor for Mac Mini M1.

In this review I will walk you through my journey to find the best monitor under 1k. I'll tell you what you have to consider and what to expect. And the question prompted me to replace. A bad sample is inevitable from time to time and this is the first time I've had to return a monitor due to problems. However, I hope to debunk a few things and help you get the most out of this monitor. I started by buying a 32 inch LG VA monitor. Bad idea for a Mac Mini or if black is important to you. VA monitors aren't the best for performance as blacks are reflected every time you scroll the screen in front of a lighter background. I do photography, design and video and couldn't handle the narrow viewing angles. So I returned it to my local Sams and increased my budget to include an IPS2 display. I found this monitor 32un880-b. This monitor has the best ergonomic stand if you have a solid desk like me. See image. I had to get a replacement within a week due to a power issue that was causing the screen to flicker after a prolonged sleep session. After I fixed the LG issue, Revain sent me a replacement the next day and the second monitor was perfect. See my troubleshooting questions below to help you if you experience the same.3. You must use this monitor with USB-C connector or Display Port with USB-C connector with Mac Mini. If you don't do this, Retina permissions will not be available to you. You can use HDMI; Just be prepared that your text will look small or large on a Mac. BIG difference between Displayport 1.4 over UBC versus HDMI.4. This monitor is not designed to be turned off manually. Just leave it on and the monitor will go to sleep to save power depending on your computer. On a Mac mini, I just press the lock button and the computer instantly turns off the screen. Turning it off manually also turns off the hub on the back. Take your time with your cable management solution and use hook and loop fasteners that are cut to the right size so the wires have enough room to move with the mount. If you don't, you will strain ports or cables.6. The anti-reflective coating is good. If you're used to the glossy screen on your laptop, you'll see the difference, but I prefer less glare than anything reflected on the monitor.7. You cannot control the speaker volume in the operating system. Speakers work well, but I recommend Logitech 407 speakers over a USB connection for OS control. Great sound and low noise. You don't have to turn them off either. When you turn off, you always hear the power-on tone, which can be loud. I never turn off the speakers so I never hear any noise.8. If you plan to use a webcam, make sure it is attached to the monitor with third-party tape, or position it away from the monitor. I use a camera tripod with a splitter. See image. Yes, you can connect to a hub behind the monitor.9 USB lights draw too much power from the USB hub on Mac Mini. I use with an extension and use the stand's cable management system to keep everything tidy.10. I will create a full setup guide as shown in the image. So check back on YouTube soon if you want to see my setup in action. Troubleshooting Information: I had to buy this monitor twice. The first had a flickering issue which I fixed and found it was either the power supply or the power management in the monitor. The monitor worked fine for a while, and then when he slept for a while it would wake up flickering and distorting the image. (See second picture) I had to turn the monitor off and on again for it to go away. I liked the monitor so I asked Amazon for a replacement who referred me to LG for troubleshooting. After explaining everything I called Revain again, the next day they sent me a replacement monitor. The new one works perfectly.
