Installed one of these as a rear exhaust fan along with two 140mm bgears blaster fans up front. As I said in my 140mm fan review, that sounds excessive, but my computer is huge and densely packed with PCI drives and cards, including the SAS 9361-8i, which gets VERY hot and needs a lot of airflow, to keep it cool enough... to prevent it from constantly throttling and rebooting (a common problem with servers that don't have enough cooling air). All together they're loud enough that I can still hear them in the garage downstairs, but my case (the older Lian Li V2120B) has foam insulation on the sides. This reduces the noise level during their installation to an almost normal level. The use of rubber bushings on the screws also helps reduce noise and vibration by isolating them from the case body. I plan on replacing the foam with a dynamo which should make it virtually silent. I won't comment on persistence, but I see no reason to believe they won't work well if they haven't exploded by now (if they do, they will most likely happen sooner rather than later).
