Review on Starrett 380-12, 12-Inch Straight Steel Ruler by Moises Dzihic

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great Accuracy, Great Value

All Starrett ranges are guaranteed to be less than +/- 0.0005 inches per linear foot. That's why I use the 12" model for face and edge measurement on all woodworking machines. The steel is fully stress relieved and triple milled to ensure dimensional stability over a wide temperature range. My father's Starrett instruments are still in perfect condition, and some are over a century old. Divide that price by a hundred years to calculate true value. With tools this beautiful, proper care is essential. Like my father, I use camellia oil or Starrett M1 oil to clean, lubricate and rust preventively We also use camphor (in block form) in tool chests, chests and cases to prevent rust. Always clean tools of this caliber after use. Handle them with care, do not abuse them and never drop them and they will become yours Decades of faithful service After the tragedy that most of my tools were stolen, sa h I am faced with the lengthy and costly process of replacing tools one by one. One of the first tools that every craftsman, regardless of their profession, has is a precision metrology tool. That's why I chose Starrett squares and rulers FIRST. You can't make a straight cut with any machine or tool until you can measure and correct for manufacturing tolerances. That's why every carpenter or locksmith needs Starrett quality. I'm happy to report that these modern Starrett instruments are still as good as the beautiful old instruments my father inherited. You cannot find anything better at any price. I don't work for or have anything to do with Starrett, but I attest that these are the finest gauges available AND they're still made in the USA! At these prices, I think it's almost a patriotic duty to buy them and tell other Americans to buy them too. This usable size is available in a wood or metal shop and can be used in a variety of ways. He gets my unreserved recommendation.
