Warning: This PNY storage device requires online data access

It was for my son to use it to backup and archive photos from his iPhone without putting pictures online to cloud storage. He explained that cloud storage is not private. The cloud owner can use the data as they see fit. The maintenance costs are usually borne by the owner. which tries to extract information from everything that is stored. Metadata and identity of people in images, for any value that can be obtained in the digital information market. I don't want any of this. I imagined this device would allow my son to easily and privately back up our iPhone and iPad photos without having to share them on the cloud. This USB mass storage device is nothing like the ones I've used with a personal computer; This PNY device will not work without the app. This is a design limitation that can be due to iOS and of course PNY. The iOS app is required to use this device and has bad reviews. I could have seen it before paying for the storage device. I hope this review serves as an understanding/warning for other Revain customers so my mistake doesn't happen again.1. The device will not work on iOS devices without the Duo Link app. This is a separate problem - a violation of the terms of the transaction for my son and for me.2. The Duo Link app is not easy enough to use. Apple products should just work. This storage device just doesn't work without an app, and the app isn't easy enough to use.3. I believe this application wants to be able to access the Duo Link server infrastructure on the network in order to work. It's not personal enough for my family. I'm very dissatisfied with the concept of requiring web access and access to everything on a corporate server (where? It's "Made in China"). for such a simple idea of backing up photos to a USB device. It's suspiciously too complicated and related (to what and where?) for my family to use. Beware.
