I love this little filter

I always wait before writing a product review. I love this little filter and it fits my needs perfectly. I purchased this small filter on September 13, 2016 to complement my 25 gallon. My aquarium is a little overcrowded so I needed some extra biofiltration. Let me tell you, this is a small engine that can do it. Sponges are ideal for biofiltration and it is possible to add any additional filtration desired. I cut my filters out of loose material so I added a felt polishing pad and occasionally I also added crushed coral (to help increase the KH). I now have a pouch of Purigen on the bottom to absorb any additional biocontaminants that the foam filters may have missed. At one point I thought it was going to be leaking around the lid, but it turns out I hadn't put the o-ring in correctly, and after I fixed it everything was fine. Pros: 1: This is a small inexpensive filter that works great, most filters are overpriced in my opinion. It was a great additional filter. If you need a little extra help with a larger aquarium, this filter is perfect. You can also use it as a pre-filter. 2: It's quiet, not as quiet as my EHEIM, but unless the small motor hits something directly I can't hear it. 3: There is plenty of room to add and customize to suit your specific filtering needs. 4: This would be a great primary filter for a 20 gallon tank or less. 5: It's cheap here too! Cons/Things I think needs improvement: Crashes every time I clean it. If you lose these things, you may need to buy a brand new filter. 2: Sharp inlet and outlet angles make cleaning difficult. 3: The connections are pretty cheap so make sure they're secure with any maintenance (I do this with all my filters so no big deal). Don't over-tighten them and don't be too tight, you might end up breaking them. Small detail: the inlet screen is too big to fit the finished pre-filter on it. and you have to make it to order. Tip: Like most filters, this filter works in the opposite direction. The inlet is at the top, not the bottom. So if you plug it in and it doesn't work, that's the first thing you should check. I still sometimes mix up my hoses when I disconnect them for cleaning. Take some food grade silicone grease and apply it to the o-ring. This extends the life of the o-ring and keeps the seal tight. As with any filter you buy, leeks should be stored in a bucket for at least two weeks. I do this with all my filters. Like it or not, most filters are now made in China and quality control may or may not be strict.
