I promise you these filters are the best mounted (HOB) filters money can buy. First, they are simple and designed to pump and filter aquarium water. Second, you don't have to constantly buy some stupid expensive replacement cartridges from the manufacturer. Third, they work almost forever. I have 3 of these filters, besides the canister these are my favorite filters. Just use whichever carrier you prefer, in the order you prefer, and it will clean for years to come. I will never buy another HOB no matter what deal they offer. I would like to respond to some complaints that I have read. one; It's noisy, first check the impeller for debris and make sure it's installed properly. Of course, even if your tank level is low, the waterfall will be noisy. 2: It worked fine for a while, but not anymore. Clean the foam insert, it seems it has sucked in a lot of dirt and needs cleaning. 3: The flow rate is bad. See 2. Seriously, they can't come to your house and teach you how to fish, but if you google and watch the video, you will learn. These are good filters and they were when Hagen made them, in fact I have both versions and there is no difference other than what it says on the cap. These are the best HOBs.
