Strong enough against a tricky 40 lb lab pup. The pup would also like to share that the wood is delicious :( Update - I probably should have trusted the reviews more. The gate is now practically unusable as the pup somehow broke both the handles/screws and the 'rail' that the the gate allows Expand doesn't hold sliding parts together very well I'm not sure if it's due to the wear and tear from the collar expanding and contracting on a daily basis or the abuse the pup has endured It's definitely not built for that restraining an ambitious animal .would be great for a puppy to respect boundaries but like puppies they get curious and poke and chew on things it definitely hasn't held up given the abuse it has endured the next step for me is metal gates, which are pressurized very light on wooden floor when pushing I'm very sad because this goal looked really great and now it's going w probably firewood next winter.
