Most car radios come with a microphone that attaches to the sun visor. I'm assuming they work, but routing the wiring and keeping the sun visor in the right direction seems like more work than it's worth. Granted, they also usually come with an adhesive backing so you can mount the entire mic assembly on a dashboard or other flat surface. But then you have a bulky microphone assembly sticking out somewhere it can get hit or broken. This mic is designed to be mounted on a flat surface and has a fairly low profile, making it less likely to get hit. As such, it's actually slightly more attractive than standard microphones. BUT. does that work the same? As far as I can tell, yes. My wife and I have almost the same Subaru Forester and I recently installed the same Sony radios. In her car, I installed a Sony microphone taped to the dashboard in a safe place. I installed this Hamanee microphone in my car and taped it on the dashboard in the same place. They both work. In both cases there is significant vocal distortion, but neither is better or worse than the other.
