Great alternative for people with special needs

I rarely, if ever, write reviews of anything I've bought online. But I thought it might help someone in the same situation as my family. By the way, my son has cerebral palsy. Now he is 6 years old. We have tried different combinations of tricycles and this year the therapy center he attends customized the bike for our specific needs. He seemed delighted with the fact that he was strapped to an adaptive trike and was a bit maneuverable. After briefing, photography and measurements, we got our prize of $4,869! Of course I was quite shocked and disappointed as like all parents we wanted our child to enjoy the simple pleasure of cycling. Not to mention it's a developmental tool that allows him to play with other kids. So we decided to do our best to provide him with this adaptive tricycle. After some thought, the disappointment was replaced with something else. It seemed that the company was taking advantage of the fact that families who had already experienced great difficulties were desperately trying to do something that could help their child and at great value for money. Decided to look for an alternative. Within 15 minutes I found this mobito. It seemed, perhaps not intended, to solve my son's exact problems. I bought a bike and built adaptive pedals, which I think are way better than the $300 "special needs" options I found listed. Santa delivered the bike on Christmas morning. My son loved it and got on and started pedaling forward and controlling the bike ON THE FIRST TRY. Having mastered this, he moves quite easily through the dead end and the street we live on. He hasn't mastered it yet, but I was very surprised at how quickly he could operate the wheel. Plus, the design is cool and whimsical enough that other kids will find it fascinating, which takes away some of the stigma that children with special needs so often face. At the moment he's having more difficulties on something other than asphalt, but I think that will be overcome with time. I read that some of the reviews expressed disappointment with the tools provided. I personally found it sufficient. Maybe a little bit better than you would expect from any bike. But I used my own so it wasn't a problem for me. Sorry for the length of this review. As I said from the beginning, I hope this will help someone in the same situation as my family and open the door for another child.

Pros
  • Sports and outdoor activities
Cons
  • Mostly good, but...
