Choose your mounting position wisely

I connect this to a Sony XAV-AX1000 and everything works fine. The image quality could be better, but it's enough to see what's going on behind it. The resolution is a bit low so everything looks fuzzy on my screen. I didn't do extensive testing at night, but it was fine for my garage at night. I wish I had known the field of view better before installing it. I would suggest mounting it to your TV and a 12V power supply and trying different positions before drilling a mounting hole. I drilled a hole in the stem handle of my Tundra and it turned out to be too high for my liking despite the slight downward angle. Since the camera cannot be pointed downwards, I stayed with this position. I'm thinking about making a pad that's thicker on one side so I can direct it down more. I don't see my tow hitch when I'm stationary, and when reversing I don't see the lines until I'm about to park in a space. If I could do it again, I'd think of the bumper somewhere instead. Also, the installation required some fiddling to get power. I used 16-18 GA Taps to connect to the reverse lights (because that's the size of my reverse light wires). It turned out to be too big for the included power cords and I couldn't get it to power me. I ended up using the spare 16ga cord I had in my power strips and connected it to the included power cord. This allowed the power taps to cut into the wire and give me the 12 volts I needed.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Other interesting options are available.
