Review on Rockler JIG IT® Drill Guide by Paul Newton

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good, but can easily be great.

First, the world revolves around price. This item is made of plastic with four tiny rubber feet. The depth gauge pictured isn't included, meaning there's definitely no $16 stuff here. Second, while this item works well with bits with larger shanks, such as B. the Forstner bits that Rockler sells, but it can easily contain metal inserts. this would make it suitable for use with the vast majority of bits, which increase in shank size in proportion to the size of the bit. I made my own set and was pleased with the results, but it's a shame that at this price point this kind of DIY approach is necessary. Finally to the reviewer questioning the safety of this contraption that carpenters need tools to test their brains on the door? Even with a 2" Forstner bit, there is enough room to hold the jig - if any - without losing fingers. I can't even imagine working in a shop where every tool has to be 100% goofy. If you use this tool with the same care you would with a power table saw or planer, you can easily drill a hole as far as China before injuring yourself.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
