I have used Spring Benders for a long time. They are great for 'soft' copper - like that used in Refrg and Gas lines. The harder the material, the less these will work. What you need to understand is that the strength of the spring allows you to bend the pipe without kinking it. The spring can NOT allow the pipe to deform (from round) and must fit closely around the pipe without loosing its own shape. This requires very strong wire. The instructions suggest putting one bender inside the pipe and one outside - be aware if you do NOT fit the right spring in the pipe, you can actually trap the inside spring in the pipe once you make the bend. One tip: Twist the Spring Bender TIGHT on the pipe at the same time you bend it, making it work more effectively. UNtwist it to help slide it off after making the bend.
