Review on Baratza Encore Conical Coffee Grinder by Elvis Kimbro

After reading reviews and recommendations from a local roaster, my wife bought me this coffee grinder as a gift. It's inexpensive, grinds well, and doesn't leave much of a mess on the counter. Late one Saturday morning while I was grinding beans it just stopped! Insert sad face here. Luckily I had enough reason to weed, but what would the coming week be without my favorite cup of coffee? I emailed the support address not expecting a reply but just to get the ball rolling. They replied within an hour. After several emails and links to troubleshooting guides, I realized this was outside of my level of experience. Clearly disappointed considering the mill was only about a year and a half old and gave me a choice. I either send the grinder away and wait for them to fix it as part of their flat rate repair program, or I buy a new grinder. After reading reviews and looking at different price points, I tended to buy the same coffee grinder again. I like the meat grinder, it works well. Revain's free next-day delivery helped with the final decision. While I felt the grinder should have lasted longer, I wanted my beans to be ground by Monday. As soon as the new grinder arrived I decided to pack the old grinder in a new box with a check for $45 for the repair. I received my old coffee grinder a week later with an invalid receipt on the top of the box. According to the invoice, the engine was replaced free of charge. Since the 1-year warranty had expired, I assumed it was a mix-up because I had put the old coffee grinder in a new box. I emailed support again and told them there must have been an error. It was a new box and an old meat grinder. I didn't expect anything for nothing. They replied no confusion, the engine should have lasted longer, repairs are free. Crazy! They stood behind the product even though it was out of warranty. Not only would I recommend the product, they have a customer for life.
