I am part of a food social media group that has been asked to provide feedback on the Smartro Pro Digital Thermocouple Thermometer. As the owner of the gold standard Thermapen, I decided to compare the two products. Smartro has a larger font size than Thermapen, stays backlit longer, and includes extra decimals. While the font size is larger on the Smartro, the screen quality isn't as good, making it difficult to read text at angles. However, temperature tests (including room temperature, hot food straight from the oven, and a bucket of ice water) seem to heat up the Smartro faster than Thermapen. usually works two degrees higher. Based on previous testing, I'm confident Thermapen is accurate. If you leave the Smartro on, it will eventually warm up and match the Thermapen reading. Both products share a similar design, although Themen seems to be more solid in terms of build quality. Thermapen typically sells for $79 or more. Smartro isn't exactly comparable, but offers a comparable alternative for less than a third of the price.
