Changes geometry from MTB to Cruiser

I work in the city and ride my bike when I'm in town on business. I've read that the best urban assault bikes are old-school mountain bikes because they have a strong chromoly frame and can take a beating. I remembered having a Schwinn High Plains in perfect condition in the basement so I dusted it off and started using it after changing the tires to slicks, adding fenders, tail bag, horn and tail light. The straight bar wasn't a problem when I bought it at 93, but over time I found that it hurt my lower back and wrists, so I bought a forest bar. I was afraid the taller handlebars would bend when jumping curbs and going down stairs (I tend to hit them around town), but they proved very strong and stable. If you want to change the geometry of your old MTB to a cruiser, this is the bar. It's missing 5 stars because I had to swap all the wires to install it and it's so wide it can't fit through doors without twisting the pole and getting through. I had to lose the mirror I had at the old bar, but now I sit high enough that it's much easier to look over my shoulder, so that's a small complaint.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Not the best
