Review on G-STORY W56TB: Portable FreeSync Touchscreen with Speakers, 15.6" IPS Display, 1920X1080P, 60Hz by Yazid Taylor

Revainrating 5 out of 5

High quality monitor, very thin and portable

A really good secondary monitor for desktop laptops. Also works with anything that has an HDMI output and displays full 1080p. The display is very clear, even small text is easy to read. I don't think the display is OLED, but the blacks are very dark and the glossy finish gives the picture a nice look, although there's a lot of glare in some lighting conditions. There is no built-in battery, so you need to plug it in. to power to turn on. For USB-C laptops, the motherboard can be powerful enough to power it, but in my case I had to either connect it to an AC adapter or use a USB battery pack, which works well. With a large enough package, the screen will work for several hours on an external battery. I couldn't get the touchscreen to work, but that's not the screen's fault. I don't have any DisplayPort Alternate Mode compatible devices. I don't need touchscreen functionality anyway, I just wanted an extra monitor when I'm working on my laptop. The panel is very thin, almost like someone removed the display from a modern laptop and placed an HDMI port on the side. It comes with a lid that doubles as a stand. The lid stand isn't the best, but it works if you detach the fold-out part that acts as a stand. The stand is held by magnets and may fall off if you press it hard. It's fine if you don't touch it, but I have concerns about using the touchscreen feature while it's on the stand because if the stand detaches from the device, it will fall off and damage the display on some surfaces to damage. There are 2 small screw holes on the back of the monitor, so you can put it on a stand or even mount it on the wall. There is a remote control which is not very good. The battery died but luckily I had a spare battery (a CR2025 I think) and got it working and it still only works half the time. It is needed to navigate through the menu and change settings. The good news is that the display looks great right out of the box and most users won't need to adjust anything. The remote is the biggest disappointment, but I'm so pleased with the screen quality and how well it works that I still give it high marks. It's also possible that I just have a bad remote control. The display has speakers and a headphone jack. They work, but I don't usually use them. My laptop has better sound so I use these speakers and I don't need a headphone jack but it might be useful for some applications. The supplied mini HDMI cable is very short. This is fine if you have a monitor next to your computer, but it needs to be within a few feet or it may not work on some desktop PCs. Longer cables are available online, it's not a big deal and most people will probably prefer a shorter cable for portability. All in all, it's a nice display and big enough to use for web browsing, gaming, or just as a second monitor. . The frame rate is 60 fps, which is suitable for casual or console gaming. I have no problems with this monitor. Every time I plug it in, my computer recognizes it and it works right away. It is reliable and very easy to transport. Fits in your laptop bag and sets up in seconds. A great option for a portable second display. The device does not heat up, but does get warm after a few hours of use. This display is better than I expected and I use it almost every day.
