Review on BLACK+DECKER Socket Set, 40-Piece: Professional Quality Tools for Versatile Applications by William Stewart

Impressive Little Socket Set

This excellent little socket set is the perfect starter socket set for people who need both metric and SAE sockets. Comes with a 3/8 ratchet which surprised me because it's very good quality for this type of set. It's 72 teeth and the smoothness isn't far off my more expensive gearwrenches. Includes adapter for 1/4" sockets as 20 out of 30 sockets are 1/4" sizes. All sockets in this set are hexagonal. A 1/4 hand screwdriver is also included and while not as handy as a ratchet it is perfectly acceptable and has a hard plastic handle suitable for light work. A short 3/8" extension is included, and another very useful adapter is a 1/4" to hex adapter. It's not magnetic, but has a wire spring inside that keeps the hex bits in place and holds in place. This is a very useful tool for using hex bits with any 1/4" ratchet or screwdriver. Screwdriver bits and adapters aren't always seen in a set like this, but I appreciate the addition, even if it's just an advertisement for a 40 piece set instead of a 33 piece. Standard quality bits well suited for hand use. I wouldn't use them on a percussion instrument, but they should last a while when used with hand tools. Contains 3 Phillips and 3 slotted bits. If your vehicle uses a lot of torx bits, you can easily purchase and add them to this set. This set comes in a beautiful molded case with snap closures. Ideal to throw in the trunk of your car or just keep on the shelf for minor car repairs or homework. This set is made in Taiwan but the quality is way better than I expected. Black and Decker is considered an entry-level brand, but sometimes they do decent stuff, and this is one of the best toolkits I've seen from them. I use this as a home power pack so I don't have to go to the garage every time I need a power pack for something around the house, which is a common occurrence in my old house. Great set, no complaints. I think the 1/4" drive knob seems cheap, but that's about it.
