We had to upgrade when our dog broke the old yellowing plastic model we had previously installed. I already cut out the door so I expected the installation would be easy. There was a small snag that the holes were in slightly different places so I had to lengthen them but it took about 5 minutes with a cordless drill. They've reduced the number of fasteners going through the door compared to the plastic model, which is nice, and the plug around the cutout is also all metal, not a cheap plastic insert. The valve is the same size so we could keep the old one to use when this one wore out. The reason for the four star weatherproof result is that the sides of the damper can let in some cold/hot air since they are not sealed (this will keep the damper running smoothly). This isn't an issue here in LA, but could be an issue if you're in a colder area. I will say that the pop-up lid, which is a big improvement over the plastic model's snap-on lid, fits snugly and will likely prevent most drafts. You can even put some insulating foam on top to protect it from the elements.
