Work to fuel it. Would I buy again
I had to put a 30 gallon drum of oil into smaller containers. I went to the hardware store and bought hose adapters and some hoses. The oil didn't pull up and out of the drum until I had almost filled the inlet hose with oil. After that I drained the oil fairly quickly. So I would say if what you pump up isn't higher than what you start with then it's not self-priming. For the money it was a win. It couldn't be cheaper. Even if it goes wrong tomorrow, it saved me a lot of time.
