I have chronic pain in my buttocks and legs that makes sitting on hard chairs, soft sofas, etc. painful. I tried many expensive commercial pillows including memory foam and gel mesh before experimenting with different foam wedges at my local upholstery store. Wedges are better than full thickness pads as they reduce pressure on the backs of the legs. Using two polyurethane foam wedges helped, but I needed more. (One wedge is 4" 1.8/24/ILD and the other 3" 1.8/36). Alone or over two wedges, the 18 x 16 Ultragel was too hard. Placing it between them was much better and greatly improved comfort. This will make the pillow heavier and more uncomfortable to wear, but it's worth it. I also hope that the Ultragel doesn't get harder than memory foam in the winter. FYI, according to the manufacturer, the maximum temperature Ultragel can withstand is 180 degrees. I'm giving it 4 stars because while I'm still limited in how long I can sit, the price will put it out of reach. For many, this is the only thing that helped, other than the wedges.
