8 active tuners. The number of tuners does not correspond to the number of cable runs required. With SWM, each cable can support multiple tuners. In the case of Genie, one cable supports 5 tuners. That leaves only 3 out of 8 tuners open. My old setup had 3 HDDVRs with two HR21-HR24 tuners. I had to decommission two old tuners in order for the Genie to function properly. With SWM enabled, only one cable is required to use both tuners on the HR24 and the B-band converters must be removed. Every wired Genie uses one port on this splitter, so I'm using 4 ports on this splitter at the moment. Don't listen to DirecTV when they tell you you can't do it yourself. There's some work to be done, but it's very doable.
