Ideally, the woman's bike had straight handlebars, which meant she had to bend too far forward. She doesn't like cruiser grips and this is a mountain bike so I gave it a try. It's a little tricky to rearrange the gears as they are much taller than the original bars, but it's fairly easy. I turned it so that it not only opened up, but got a bit closer to her. We bought another bike (now sold) and if that doesn't work we will try to buy another. Now she is comfortable to ride and I got new handlebars to match her bike, very happy.
