Review on πŸ”Œ KeeYees Development Board WiFi WLAN Wireless Module for ESP8266 NodeMCU ESP-12E Arduino (Pack of 5) by Christine Gauthier

High performance dirt chip microcontroller board with onboard WiFi

I use this board as a network programming platform for embedded systems courses. Since the hard real-time mode is not the most important feature in this case, I use it with the freely available Micro Python firmware. A colleague of mine uses the same board to teach Lua. In 2019 I bought my son some boards for his school projects. It can be used with the Arduino IDE and Arduion = a C++ variant for real-time applications. Some of my students set up the Node-JS IDE to program the board in C++ using a professional environment instead of Arduino. This is the environment I like the most. However, the process of setting it up was not trivial. Another of my students showed me the board used in the NodeRED IoT Visual Engine. She appreciated that it was easy to set up and use multiple ESP boards with the NodeRED engine running on the RaspberryPi. So I came to the conclusion that it's good for teachers, good for students, and good for hobbyists. Of course, it doesn't have industrial reliability, so it's probably only good for proof-of-concept in an industrial environment. Be careful not to damage the micro USB connector by rough handling of the circuit board hanging from the end of the micro USB cable. Some of my students have reported socket corruption if they haven't moved it without care. You can't just throw a board in a laptop bag, move and expect it to survive. Even if it hasn't happened to me yet.
