The fluffy appearance is very soft, but the inside (the actual part of the stopper) cannot be changed, it is as hard as styrofoam. I liked that they had a loop for easy removal but never needed them because they were just as easy to throw away after a few head shakes. On the third try (it seemed appropriate to me to push them as far as possible) they still didn't hold in place. Super loafers, they didn't work, the price was right and the royal blue was richly colored.
