Let me say up front that based on the many reviews with overflowing coffee grounds and a burnt plastic smell I almost didn't buy it. However, my parents have had the muffin for over 30 years and never had any problems like this, so I relied on them. The end result was AMAZING: hot coffee every day. I have waited many years to purchase the Bunn and now that the following issues have been resolved I am very happy with it. I followed all prep instructions for T to avoid plastic smell (read about that in other reviews). Works great, never smelled like plastic. However, I experienced daily overflows of coffee grounds onto our counters. I was ready to give Bunn back and kick out the old trusty Mr. Coffee, but decided to call Bunn's customer service instead. Customer service reported that due to the type of coffee I was using and the atomizer water flow rate, the coffee grounds were being pushed out from the top. (Makes sense, but I've spent no more than $100 on a coffee maker to clean up a hot mess every day). In less than 2 minutes of conversation she knew what I needed to fix the problem and sent it to me for free. I had it a few days later and have NOT had a single earth leak since! (BLESSING). Solution: The solution was a different spray head that sprays the water more slowly into the filter basket. The brewing time has been increased by about 1 minute, but that doesn't really bother me considering I don't clean up a huge mess every day. Coffee: We use Dunkin Donuts mixed with Paramount Roasters. pre-shredded. Medium roast. Support said that a finer grind or a different type of coffee would fix the issue. I've been using the same coffee for over 4 years and I have no plans to change it, but a new atomizer head solved the problem anyway.
