Review on Norpro Cast Iron Bacon Press with Wood Handle - High-Quality and Round by Becki Felix

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Why didn't I buy this many years ago?

Frying raw bacon used to be a disaster. It will warp, burn black in some spots and be slightly mushy in others, stick to the cast iron skillet and not be crispy. Thought I'd give this bacon maker a try, expecting at least the bacon to come out flat and maybe brown better. Well, I'm shocked at how much this bacon press has changed. The same raw bacon comes out perfectly flat (yup), doesn't burn, doesn't stick to the same cast-iron skillet, and comes out crispy. It comes unseasoned, but there were no issues with the seasoning. I brushed the top and bottom with a thin layer of bacon, placed in the aforementioned cast iron skillet, turned the burner on to medium (with the extractor fan on) and after an hour it was black on the bottom and brown on the bottom. vertex. Nice! Yes, touching the metal clips that hold the handle will burn you so you have to be careful not to, but for me the handle is long enough so it's not a problem and I don't have small hands. The diameter is 8 3/4 inches, not 9 inches as the product description says, and it weighs just under 3 pounds. I've only had this bacon maker for a day (it actually arrived today), but I can see that it's become a winner in my kitchen. I am very happy that I bought it. The bacon press is darker than my original seasoning, I tried the following: I wiped the oil off the bottom of the press, applied a thin layer of bacon grease to it and placed it directly on a large electric stovetop over medium heat. I figured the top didn't get hot enough when I seasoned it in the pan and that would have made the top a lot hotter. Well it turned out beautiful. My bacon press is now completely black on the bottom and completely dark brown on top.
