The "legs" that the bottom edge of the laptop rests on are retractable, meaning they fold and unfold. This gives the stand an edge over its competitors. First, it stows completely flat when not in use. Second, the lid of the laptop can be completely closed while standing on the stand. Other stands with upturned legs do not fully close the laptop. This was a BIG decision criterion for me when comparing products. * Check out customer pictures to see what you are actually getting (as opposed to the listing pictures). This stand is solid, not flimsy. ***EDIT*** I really liked this stand when I ordered it in June 2020. I ordered one for my son in September 2020. I noticed that the design has changed. The latest product I received looks exactly like the photos in the listing which means there are no retractable 'legs'. In the highest position, the laptop will not close while on the stand, but will CLOSED when the device is moved into the recesses further back. Overall I'm still happy with the functionality, material and durability, but I like the first version better.
