Review on OFYDNR Spoilboard Surfacing Router Bits by Walter Martin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

2 " diameter, 1/2 " shank, carbide, 4-blade milling cutter

milling cutter is a woodworking tool that, together with the router table, can complete many woodworking tasks when used with the right bits. This tungsten carbide (TC) bit is very useful for hardfacing wood to smooth and level the surface. I can't show pictures of this bit in action as I don't have a router or table at the moment. However, I have used one in the past. I do a lot of woodworking and this is a properly sharpened TC router bit that uses 4 sharpened carbide inserts, 1 per 4 cutting wings. The first 3 pictures show the chisel. When I placed this chisel on the cutter blades I found a tiny stone of about 0.07mm showing a difference in planar alignment of the top edges of the TC cutter of about 0.035mm. Figures 4 and 5 show this unevenness, which allowed me to run a steel ruler under one wing without lifting two adjacent drill wings. This was tested on a thick block of flat steel. So that means the slightly recessed TC fenders wear out slower than the other two. A slight deviation from being really flat that won't necessarily affect the finish of the wood, but I noticed it and that's why I mentioned it. This is a very good value.

Pros
  • milling cutter
Cons
  • without automatic
