Review on LeapFrog 80 19190E My Pal Scout: Interactive Learning Plush Toy for Kids by Steven Harper

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Old version great, new not so good

I have mixed reviews for the Scout/Violet product. Two of my kids have owned them and they have been amazing! Loved absolutely everything about them. From choosing your child's name, personalizing songs and sayings, choosing songs and favorite items, and even battery life (which can't be said for many toys these days). However, we bought another one for my third child for Christmas. . I was very careful to get the exact same item but when it arrived it was marked as a 'new' Scout model even though Revain hadn't advertised it as such. Oh, new = better, I thought when it arrived. Not so. While we were still able to customize my child's name, favorite food, and favorite animal, you can no longer choose songs! I can't imagine why they removed this feature. My son was deeply disappointed that his brothers and sisters could choose and change the music composition but he couldn't. We considered returning him but he is a very sensitive kid and thought Scout would be sad if we sent him back so we kept him. The difference is that the "new" version (in which you can't change songs) transmits information through the audio jack, while the older, more advanced version uses a USB cable. Unfortunately, there's no way to tell which version Revain will ship to you. So if song selection is important to you, you can go to the actual store to check which version you're getting.
