Review on Empava Induction Cooktop Electric EMPV IDC30 by Natasha Williams

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Replaced an old GE electric hob and fit much better than expected.

So, after reading the reviews, I expected that new problems would arise during the installation. I was replacing an existing 1960's electric range that was falling apart. The shape and size were so odd that GE sells a special steel adapter for its modern cooktops to replace these old units. It turns out that this device fits almost perfectly. I had to install some 1/2" planks on the left and right and some 1/4" planks on the front and back to give the cooktop support and it completely covers the hole. it is very flexible. Silicone or rubber insulation, steel wrapped cable. The whole appliance is of pretty good build quality, it's an induction cooker. If you are not familiar with the technology, you cannot use aluminum pans here. Only pots made of stainless steel or cast iron. If the magnet won't stick to your favorite pan, consider a different hob. Or do as I do and take the opportunity to buy new pots. For the difference in price compared to a Whirlpool or Frigidare induction appliance, you can buy a brand new cook set twice over. Check the electrical box in the basement and make sure you have a 40 amp switch for the hob. If you do not take the necessary steps to update them. The description of the hob clearly states that you need it. Likewise the operating instructions and the box with very clear writing. After installation, the device turned out great for me! Very easy to maintain compared to my old hob (picture). Just note that unlike an electric or gas stove, the hob has a sensor that detects if the pan has been removed from the hob and shuts the appliance off with an error code. So you don't have to lift the pan to stir the butter or oil. Buy a silicone brush to help you with this. There will be some necessary changes to your cooking style. However, I did find the new hob useful. If you hear claims about how fast induction works, I can say it's true. Made spaghetti the first night. The pot of water boiled in about 2 minutes. The next morning I had a hot pan ready for eggs in 10 seconds on setting 2. "Lock" prevents you from accidentally turning on the device or small hands playing with it. So far I like it and can recommend it. The difference in cost makes it possible to not only buy pans when you need them, but also to hire an electrician when you need an electrical upgrade. To be clear, you need the same for Frigidare or Whirlpool blocks. There is now a noise associated with induction cooktops. This is a high pitched trill with fan noise. This is not unique to this device. That's how you know it works. This may bother some people, but I appreciate it. The old resistance hob made no noise other than the occasional click of a relay and had a "warning light" to let you know the unit was hot. somewhere. With this new device, every single point on the hob is monitored for heat, even after you turn it off.
