Review on πŸ” 12X50 High Power DOTSOG Monocular Telescope with Smartphone Holder - Perfect for Bird Watching, Hunting, Camping, Travelling, and Wildlife Observation by Sonny Nevers

Revainrating 2 out of 5

I ordered 12x50. In return, I received 8x40. Wrong instructions.

I ordered a 12x50 monocular and compared it to my Nikon 9x25 and Tasco 7x35 binoculars and Gosky 8-24x50 zoom monocular. The lens size is 40mm, not 50mm. And the increase is somewhere between Tasco and Nikon. So I would rate this unit an 8x40 rather than a 12x50. The label on the device says it's 40x60, which is very, very far off. The box says model number KL1040 which could mean it should be 10x40 but even that is a little off. The box for the monocular was badly taped and bulged when it arrived. The kit also included a nice canvas case, a lens cap that attaches to the monocular, a separate eyepiece cap, a wrist strap that attaches to the tripod slot, a cleaning cloth, a mini tripod, a phone holder that attaches to the eyepiece, and instructions, which appear to be for another device (see photo). The cell phone holder fits phones up to 2 3/4 inches wide. Since the rubber around the eyepiece is a little loose, the attachment of the phone holder to the eyepiece seems unreliable. The monocular is relatively light and feels good in the hand. The focus knob moves smoothly and works well. The image through the block appears clear and undistorted. If you are looking for an 8x40 monocular, $15 is a good price. Should have returned it but didn't get a full refund (lost 75 cents).

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
