If you have an HDMI output (e.g. on your laptop) and need to connect a screen or projector that does not have an HDMI input, but has a VGA input then you need that. A simple and great converter that also has a USB port. So if your signal is weak, it can use the USB line power to boost the signal. Simple but wonderful! The case is nicely finished, the HDMI cable is good and solid, with a strain relief at both ends. A simple but beautiful converter that works really well. The output quality was exceptional - so good I didn't need an amplifier.
