Powerful and versatile!

This gravel cleaner has multiple configurations and different uses. What I have found most useful in my setups are the vacuum and pump attachments. There are several other baits that work best for a bare bottom tank (which I don't have). Gravel Vacuum: The gravel vacuum worked well on my "fine gravel" substrate, but I didn't use it on my floor. Tanks with a sand bottom as the grains of sand are too small to get into the pump motor. If you have a gravel pad, it's great for a good clean. There is a sponge in the vacuum nozzle, but I have found that it works very well without it. My old vacuum's diameter is slightly larger and I found the Hygger fit much better between rocks, driftwood, etc. Also, the vacuum bag tended to fall off after prolonged use, but the elastic held it up great! I also found the pump attachment very pleasant. This allows the handle to sit upright on a small base. I emptied the 55g and 29g tanks very quickly and also used them to speed up water changes. The hose that came with it was long enough to reach the bucket but not long enough to reach the drain. However, I did find that my hand held siphon hose is attached to the Hygger so I can reach my waste water. A few words of caution. When finished, first remove it from the tank. Whichever tool you use, be prepared to have a bucket nearby to put it in, as water will spill out. I hold it over my tank to drain, then immediately pop it in the bucket. Second, if you're using it for a water change, remember that the pump is at the bottom of the tank. It's very easy to completely drain the tank if you're not careful! I have used a few battery powered gravel vacuums and have never been happy with their performance. This one sticks in the wall and is much stronger! Overall, this gravel cleaner works very well for my purposes in the fish room.
