The big advantage of the VFXR is that it does not require a MATE3 or HUB to operate (unlike Outback's Radian inverters). When using the VFXR3648 in standalone mode, no programming or MATE is required. The new VFXR3648 costs almost the same as the old FX model, but has more features such as hybrid and network capabilities, as well as support for lithium and other new battery technologies.
