Review on Hunter 53236 Builder Plus Indoor Ceiling Fan with Lights and Remote Control, 52", Snow White Finish by Autumn Campbell

Revainrating 4 out of 5

2 upgrades: The light kit failed in just 3 weeks. A bit of a hassle to install but looks good, works well and is priced right.

Update June 15, 2018 I have contacted Revain just to get a replacement lighting kit. There are no dice. They referred me to the manufacturer. We all know how it was. (20 mins of phone hell, never got through to the person and ended up hanging up - oh how amazing!) I was still less than 30 days old (close) so I started returning the whole device with Revain and then I did ordered a brand new block to replace it. I wasn't planning on disassembling the whole thing (mounted on a 14ft ceiling) so I just took the lighting kit out of the new box and replaced the faulty one, then I sent back the second fan assembly intact with the faulty lighting kit and a note that you are not to resell the device unless you are replacing the lighting kit. RETURN WARNING: I'm not sure what's up with Revain now, but if a return was initiated 30 days ago you still had a few weeks to send it back to them. This time I set up a return after 29 days and the email they sent me said I had less than 24 hours to send it back to them for a refund. Oh! I called them and they fixed it, but the way they fixed it was by claiming that I was returning the second fan I just ordered, which eliminated the 30 day return window of a new fan was eliminated. I called them back and said the first set worked great the first day but stopped working after 3 weeks so I want to reserve the option to return the second set after 30 days if needed. They said they would fix it but it still shows I returned the second one not the original fan and 2 weeks have passed. Hopefully I don't have to return this but be careful - they get tricky with returns and read those emails to make sure you still have time to return it even if you started returning it 30 days ago. --------------------------------------------------------------- - ---------------Update 06/03/2018: Lightweight kit failed after only 3 weeks of installation. Will be updated again after trying to solve. -------------- Original Review --------------------- I just installed it yesterday. The lighting kit and fan blades were more complicated than necessary to install, but in the end it's a beautiful fan and light and mine still works well. Pros: - Overall it looks good. The color is a crisp white and the lighting set has beautiful swirling designer glass that looks clean. - Lightbulbs look like tiny candles, but they put out a surprising amount of light in my kitchen. - Move a lot of air and do it CALM! Very Quiet - Simple electrical connections for the lighting kit. Just snap together, no nuts for wires. - Roomy fan case to easily fit the cables (and possibly any remote you can buy separately). - Extra long wires so if you need a bottom bar extension that's great. I needed an extra 4 feet and didn't have to cut or splice. - Good support bracket to hold when connecting wires, especially with bottom rod extension. Cons: - Installation is harder than it needs to be. , so plan on swearing more than usual. - The screws are very short and almost impossible to tighten as your fingers can't get them close enough to even tighten them. - Not all screw holes are pre-drilled, basic kit just punches holes, so plan on swearing more than usual! - Fan blades now require a rubber grommet to be installed before the blades are screwed into their mounts. a while about that. Overall I like the fan/light kit. Once you install it you will be happy and the price will be right. You'll be climbing up and down that ladder to find your screws that you dropped (LOTS), but if you learn from my mistakes you'll preinstall all the screws for the lighting kit before you even climb that ladder. Do not assemble the kit, simply re-insert the screws to reveal the holes. They are unthreaded, so doing it on the floor is much better than doing it up an overhead ladder. Once you get the screws in, they go in and out MUCH easier, so once you're in, you won't be fumbling/dropping/cussing as much as I did. FYI, I've installed about 15 ceiling fans over the past 35 years and it's been harder than some and easier than others. Only new ways to make it difficult, but almost all of them are difficult to install in one way or another.

Pros
  • Ceiling fans
Cons
  • Everything OK
