The superfine stone was defective

I bought this item based on many positive reviews, but unfortunately the item received was only partially usable. Large and small rocks worked well and cut very quickly, but there were problems with very small rocks. It did not have a flat surface like the other two stones. Machining or stamping marks were still visible on the metal in a few places, and there was a slightly raised protrusion on the metal around each of the small holes where the plastic base was visible. I called DMT USA to discuss this and the woman barely listened to my concerns before emailing me on how to "break in" the super thin stone (something not mentioned in the product description or instructions ). She told me to rub it in a figure eight pattern with a piece of metal until I heard an audible change in the stone's work. I have three problems with this. 1.) I bought a product from you and paid good money for it - maybe DMT should shrink it before selling it to customers or do better quality control. 2.) I don't think that was the problem. The ridges on the metal were so pronounced that they prevented the edge of my blade from sliding across them. I tried hacking it according to their email instructions for about 10 minutes and it didn't help at all. This stone also scratched one of my test knives like hell. And 3.) The "audible change" in a stone's potency is highly ambiguous and subjective. The other two stones appear to have been glued onto a plastic base and then machined or polished before the diamond coating was applied. The very thin stone still had tool marks, raised protrusions around the holes, and it wasn't even possible to run a blade over it without it snagging and stopping. I find it hard to believe that it only took one 'hack'. I don't have the patience to go back and forth with customer service and maybe eventually get a replacement stone after convincing DMT that the problem wasn't just that I didn't break the stone enough so I'm frustrated to return him to Revain.
