Review on SEDNA SE PCIE SC 10 Quality Channel CM9882A by James Arellano

I had a SoundBlaster Live Platinum card with a Live Disc tray/interface. This 16 year old card didn't work well with a modern motherboard and operating system and I didn't want to download homemade drivers to try and get it working. I used the SB Live Drive's coaxial SPDIF input to record DAT music, so playing it back was painful. I started looking for another self-service card to fill the bill. The problem quickly emerged that all of today's sound cards (if they support SPDIF input at all) tend to only support TOSlink (optical). I needed Coax. And an SB card or two that supported SPDIF-COAX input cost about $300 more than I was willing to pay. Enter Sedna SE-PCIE-SC-10. It has SPDIF inputs and outputs, both TOS* and *Coax, and is only $70. And it has a much higher sample rate (192kHz/24bit) than the old SB-Live card (48kHz/16bit). Not that it matters since my DAT is limited to 48/16 output anyway, but it's still nice to be able to. It installed flawlessly and the software loaded flawlessly and more importantly it takes my DAT music just like the SB card. That's probably just me, but I also feel like the sound quality is better. I'm happy.
