It's nice, small and handy, but.- Unlike a normal GPS device, there is no background map to see your progress - You determine your position (automatically), save it as a POI, and then when you move away from that place, the display shows in which direction you are moving and how many meters you are from the POI. - the screen is pretty damn hard to see in bright sunlight; Even in the shade of the trees, the screen is dark - I found the instruction manual difficult to understand and follow. Button presses have been left out - like using the scroll button to switch between mode screens! — Oh yes, this device runs on batteries! Your best bet is to invest in a pair of AAA rechargeable batteries and a charger. To be honest it was quite difficult for me to learn how to use it. Then, after a fairly complicated programming sequence, it doesn't really do you much good. Basically it gives you the direction and how far you are: a) where you started, orb) from a point where you were before and are now returning. I expected more for the money. I would invest in a GSP that has a terrain map display to show you where you are in relation to surrounding terrain features (and roads) rather than just an abstract landmark that you programmed. rick
