Review on Capresso 485 05 10 Cup Programmable Thermal by Joy Owens

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Not as good as the old model but still a great coffee maker.

Like many other reviewers I bought these to replace my old Capresso 500. We had an old one, about 10 years old, and loved it. One fine day I just decided I didn't want to cook anymore, so I wanted to replace it with the same model. Well, the 500 is no longer available and it's an "updated" model. Actually not many updates. Actually the changes are disappointing, I prefer the old one. Still, it's a great coffee maker and I still give it 5 stars. First to the shortcomings. The water sensor on the side is very difficult to read but was the same on the old one. On both of them I put pieces of tape marking half a pot and a full pot. The old pot had three plastic legs, the new one didn't. The flat metal bottom of a new saucepan makes a distinct clink when you place it on the counter. It should be noted that the new machine is about half an inch taller than the old one. I had to rearrange the shelf my car is under. Now about pluses. First, this is the only machine I've been able to find that uses a stainless steel heating tube instead of aluminum. I love the timer function and use it every working day. I make myself coffee the night before and it's freshly brewed before I walk out the door. I like the concept of a thermos rather than a pot simmering on the stove. Of course, coffee doesn't stay hot for long, but it doesn't burn either. The pause and feed function is great even though it's an old machine that started leaking after about 5 years. I've always wanted to order a new filter basket, but never got around to it. I didn't have the alignment issues that I see in many other reviews. The coffee is always perfect. All in all, I love this coffee maker. If I had never had the old model, I would not have been disappointed in anything.

Pros
  • Great selection
Cons
  • Hard to remember but it was
