Slow Version: Because of this, the tiny clamps that hold the cage around the ceramic heater are very fragile. I broke them within seconds of taking the heater out of the box. I want to clarify that I broke it, it didn't break. In fact, this heater was packaged very well. At the same time, the cage and the heater itself were not assembled, and with very little effort when attaching the case to the heating element, the small tongue broke. The main feature that drew me to this heater was the cage to keep my razor blade musk turtle from getting burned so it was impossible to refuse the cage. I ended up gluing the cage to the heater, looks awful because I had to use a lot of glue to keep it in place BUT. that will work. As for the actual feature, I've only been running it for a day and it's getting pretty hot. Setting the heater to 78 caused my tank to have more than 81 before I caught it, so I wouldn't trust the numbers on the dials. Set it to 75 and see what the temperature really is. Also, the red LED indicator is bright and distracting. With other heaters, the light goes on and off when the heater is turned on and off. It only seems to turn on when plugged in. Come to think of it, maybe this heater is just stuck in the ON position. This certainly explains the high temperatures I encountered. Update: yes, the thing never goes out, sits unplugged in the tank. Would return it if I didn't have to tape it for work. There are real heaters. I recommend buying one of these branded products like Aqueon, Zilla, Cobalt or Fluval. I will order Fluval as I have never had a problem with their heaters.
