Review on MSI Optix MAG274QRF Gaming Monitor: Adjustable, 2560X1440, 165Hz, High Dynamic Range by James Anip

Quality IPS monitor for less than $400

Say you are looking for 1440p165hz 27in. Monitor, and you already know that IPS HDR is worse than a TV, and what you know about IPSvsVAvsTNvsOLED. Having had no monitor (other than a laptop), here's what I think of this (non-QD) model: Likes: - Good size - 2 USB ports make it easy to switch from laptop to desktop (just need a USB redirect type B). not mouse + keyboard + others - Bright enough for me - I think it's minimal backlight bleeding - RGB doesn't seem to affect the price (AKA no RGB tax) - blue light filter is good - ergonomics are amazing if you don't buy hand - Upgradable firmware may add new features (latest adds sRGB mode) - FreesyncCons: - Some black light bleed (just note in a dark room and on a dark screen). Some people may have returned it for this, but I only care if I notice it on a regular (non-black) screen, so I'm keeping it - the RGB could be brighter (I wish it lit the back more to to make nighttime viewing easier ) - Missing KVM switch which the m27q has - DisplayPort 1.2a (not 1.4 so 165hz mode is limited to 8bit and 10bit to max 120hz). At the moment my "macro" button doesn't work (the button on the left is for quick access). I don't know if it's the settings or the hardware. I don't really need it so I'm not worried but a little frustrated that it's either broken or just difficult to set up. I don't think RMA is worth it. In general, I've had the monitor for 2 days now and I like it. I came out of the living room with a Samsung 4k60hz TV. The TV had better HDR and of course 4k is sharper, but I really like having 165Hz and a smaller screen for tabletop use (especially for FPS). I haven't used the Gigabyte m27q, but it seems comparable for about $50 more. You're paying for better ergonomics, slightly faster response times, and (from the reviews I see of both products) better quality control. Take 8 days for Revane.
