Review on 🚴 Kurt Rock And Roll Control Bike Trainers - Enhanced Kinetic Performance by Jeho Odor

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Ready to tinker a little?

So I have about 10 hours on this thing at the moment. My setup is a HT29 with a 700x32 practice tire and I use the front turntable (great). People complain about it, but I haven't had too many problems. I had to reset bluetooth on my phone after connecting the control box. This solved the problem. After that I updated the firmware and so far everything is working fine. I didn't have any disconnects. Every time I connect the trainer and then open the app, the trainer connects. The rock 'n' roll aspect of this is very tricky. If you weigh 150 pounds, that's probably great. It has 4 rubber grommets in 2 vertical stacks that allow it to move. On my first ride there was so much traffic that I could hardly drive. My front wheel had to be rotated 45 degrees to the right and my butt moved slightly to the right to keep me from looking waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa: I even put my foot down once to avoid breaking it! I thought it was a comeback but read about a trick the other big guy tried (215). I replaced the front upper rubber bushing with a set of steel washers that were exactly the size of the bushing. Voila! Now the movements were perfect - very realistic and also very comfortable to ride. However, the bike seemed to lean quite a bit to the left when I looked down at the right side of my front rim. That's partly normal, but I'm talking about a fairly extreme incline. So the level has gone up. My seat was really the only place on the bike where I could get a good grade. And it was TERRIBLE. No wonder I felt like I was leaning! So I compared it to the ground. The bottom was offset slightly, as if not perfect, but completely within the bubble. The leveling bladder on the bike seat was 50% out of line, so the alignment issue is with the trainer. I'm glad I'm a practical guy. I pulled out some spacers left over from installing the new doors and used them to raise the left side of the coach. I got the leveling bubble right inside the leveling lines, so it's not perfect, but close enough. I got down to testing and lowered, and lo and behold, it was as close to outdoor riding as you could get. The bike was as smooth as any road or trail would allow and I was able to ride with a realistic range of motion with the handlebars straight and the rear end position correct on the saddle. So if you're willing to work on adjusting this thing for your weight and solving level issues, that's really awesome. Now I can't talk about the resistance aspects of the control unit. I probably bought more treadmill than I need. I haven't tried any resistance programs yet as I'm just trying to put in some enduro miles this summer to beat the desert heat. What I can say is that the performance numbers are everywhere. They seem to be constant during each ride, but not between rides. On a ride I average 39 watts (literally). The next, with the same effort, around 60 watts. Based on my supposed exertion, my quark on my road bike would say I'm going about 120 watts. I'm glad I don't care about those numbers on this machine. I think this simulator falls into a very odd middle ground. If you really care about numbers, you need a better coach. If, like me, you're just looking to avoid the heat or cold by exercising for a few hours, that's probably more of a trainer than we need (and more hassle). I chose this one because I thought Zwift would be cool. It is not. I ride Hulu or Netflix! I'm on the fence I can't recommend this machine, but I can't say it's bad either. Just needs some work. I will say that the driving experience is amazing now that it's set up properly. It is very realistic for outdoor riding.
