It's not waterproof.

May 2019: Helps repel water but is not fully waterproof. I packed stuffed duffel bags to the zip. After several days of rain, the duffel bags and their contents were wet - not soaked, but wet. I keep the carrier because I have to pay $30 shipping for the return. It is not worth. Also, I don't need a hard trunk that creates wind resistance and slows you down on long journeys. I reinforced the interior with waterproof tanks and bags. I plan to store items in it that will rotate depending on the season. They will be packed well in waterproof bags and containers. However, I do need to keep an eye on the wearer's internal padding just to wipe away any water that may collect during a downpour etc to avoid mold or mildew stains. If that is too cumbersome for you, use a hard container. July 30, 2019: Condensation continued to collect in the trunk. The boost worked, but wiping off the condensation was a pain. On top of that, no matter how tight it was tightened, it still made too much noise to do anything about it. All the media I had was loud. But in this case, along with the problem of condensation, it was too difficult. So I downsized: no roof racks at all - although I still tie gear like tent, tarp, camp chairs to the rails. I use a combination of ratchet straps and cable ties. For some reason there is only a little noise. I will upload some photos next time camping.
