I used a Kaytee cage over the tank thinking my 7 year old could clean the CritterTrail himself. Not correct. In order to clean the cage, it must be completely disassembled. The yellow hose on the side connects to both the top and bottom, so it must be removed first. Then when the base is removed the sides fall out so you're building the cage from scratch every time you clean it. It is not suitable for children or adults. We also bought a Petite Habitat portable so we can mate them and give the hamsters their own roost (hopefully avoiding the problem described in other comments of hamsters taking their bedding to the wheel). ). It took our dog a push to break through the tunnel just off the side and the hamster ran away. Luckily I was there right away, otherwise it could have been a disaster. UPDATE: We bought an IRIS three tier cage three months later with the Kaytee Extreme Challenge cage. I like it a lot more. Much higher and easier to clean.
